Palestine has formally applied for full membership in the BRICS economic bloc, marking a significant diplomatic step aimed at strengthening international alliances. The confirmation came from Palestine’s ambassador to Russia, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, who said the application has already been submitted but no official response has been received.
Ambassador Nofal added that despite the pending outcome, Palestine will attend the upcoming BRICS summit as a guest. 'We have submitted our application, and we await the decision of the BRICS countries,' he stated.
The BRICS group, initially made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has recently expanded to include new members such as Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia. The bloc continues to grow its influence as an alternative to Western-led global institutions.
Palestine’s bid comes during heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing calls for wider international recognition of its statehood. Securing BRICS membership would give Palestine greater access to economic and diplomatic support from some of the world’s largest emerging powers.
The process of joining BRICS requires meeting certain economic and political conditions agreed upon by the member states. Until a decision is reached, Palestine will remain engaged in the bloc’s activities under guest status.
