A powerful tropical storm, formerly Typhoon Bualoi, has smashed into central Vietnam, leaving at least **13 people dead** and dozens injured or missing, according to government reports.

The storm made landfall along Vietnam’s northern central coast early Monday, bringing heavy rain, wind gusts up to 8 meters in waves, flooding, and widespread damage to infrastructure.

In Ninh Binh province alone, multiple fatalities were reported, while other deaths occurred across Hue, Thanh Hoa, Quang Tri and Danang.

Rescue teams are also searching for missing fishermen whose boats broke loose or went adrift amid high waves and strong currents.

Before reaching Vietnam, Bualoi caused fatalities in the Philippines and displaced tens of thousands, raising fears of compounding damage in a vulnerable region.

Meteorologists warned of ongoing risks of flash floods, landslides and further storm surges in the storm’s wake, particularly in mountainous and coastal areas.
